A Hogwarts Birthday...

This year little Em decided she'd like a Hogwarts style birthday party to celebrate turning double digits. I was against it at the beginning as I know what kind of work goes in to parties held at home. But I also know how big a deal double digits is. So I gave in. Since about January we have been planning all the little details. Thank goodness for Google and Pinterest. I've found so many ideas to help us have a fun party.

First was the sorting hat...
Cardboard and an old cereal box created the base for the hat. Next came some creative newspaper and tape pieces to build the face and the top of the hat where it bends over a bit.

Next was the paper mache to really fill it out. This part was messy but gave it the final shape which worked nice.

And finally...paint! It's still a little more shiny than I'd like. I may add a layer of matte Mog Podge to bring down the shine.

The next craft was creating wands. I bought some cheap chopsticks online that had a fun little twist in them. This one was really easy. We made several different variations using the hot glue gun. Once cooled we did a thin layer of gold acrylic paint.

And the final product!

The Golden Snitch which was SUPER simple to make. Lindor Chocolates with the gold wrappers and some feathers from Walmart. Simply hot glue the feathers into the ends of the chocolate wrappers and voila!

And to end off this blog I'll post our invitations. We simply printed them on parchment type paper. I would have preferred something more old looking but this will do. I'm planning to roll them up and tie with a red ribbon. Of course you could do envelopes with hot wax to seal them but I've spent my time on other details :)

Stay tuned for more party ideas. We have house notebooks, transfiguration class and of course potions class!
